Volunteer & Internship Opportunities

NEXAA’s goal is to serve as an advocate and promoter of the discipline of intermodal expressive arts in all relevant areas of Dutch society, including education, medicine, therapy, and physical and mental health.

To achieve this, we rely on enthusiastic and skilled individuals to assist us with various tasks and goals.  We usually have options for additional support in the role of:

  • Core team/full Board member (developing the organization, decision-making, budgeting, brand development, etc.).
  • Members who work on an assignment basis (such as social media management, database building, publicity,  event planning, fundraising, translation of documents and materials, etc.)

As an international team, we primarily work in the English language; however, we are also seeking to strengthen our team with fluent Dutch speakers and expand our capabilities to work in Dutch where necessary. You do not need to be an expressive/creative arts therapist or professional; you only need enthusiasm and curiosity about the potential of the expressive arts and a keen desire to help create something that will help to better our world and the potential for healing. Besides good Dutch and English communication skills, we can usually use some help from people who are skilled/have some knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  1. Finance – accounting, taxes, and raising funds for non-profit organizations.
  1. Marketing – Promotions, social media management – content creator, networking, brand management and visibility, graphic design skills, video and montage making, etc.
  1. Business management, executive skills, and familiarity with non-profit work and social entrepreneurship.
  1. Mental health professionals (psychology, psychotherapy, or related field), with a strong interest or experience in the role of the arts in mental health.

We also offer supervised Internship positions for those studying in a directly or indirectly related area: think social work, creative arts therapies, business specializing in non-profit/cultural sector, psychology, or pedagogy, or any research that involves the arts, for those who want to learn more about how to weave the expressive arts into other disciplines. We are flexible and generous with our time and areas of interest.

  • We offer our volunteers a free yearly membership for volunteering for 4 hours a month or more. If you become part of the core team, you will have discounted access to all future workshops and training we offer for as long as you are a board or team member.
  • You will be part of a dynamic and enthusiastic team of professionals who are determined to put the discipline of Intermodal Expressive Arts on the map in the Netherlands, and who each have an extensive international network of ExA professionals and experience.
  • Students or those in training: this is an opportunity to expand your knowledge and skills base, and get involved in evidence-based practices at an early stage in the Netherlands.
  • Professionals: You can grow your network and find collaborative options amongst like-minded professionals.
