Irish poet and philosopher John O’Donohue tells us “The hunger to belong is at the heart of our nature. Cut off from others, we atrophy and turn in on ourselves. The sense of belonging is the natural balance of our lives… Our hunger to belong is the longing to find a bridge across the distance from isolation to intimacy.” In this 3-hour interdisciplinary expressive arts workshop we will explore through various forms of artistic expression what ‘belonging’ means to us as individuals, as part of the human collective and as a part of Nature. Using movement, voice, poetry, collaging, and storytelling we will move out of ‘thinking about’ and into ‘moving with, through, and in the world’. The workshop is open to everyone 16+, regardless of artistic experience, gender, spirituality, sexual orientation, nationality or heritage. We work in a spirit of peace and non-violence, with acceptance and care for one another.

All of the materials are provided, as well as tea and snacks but please bring anything you wish to make sure you have for yourself (art supplies, specific food, etc.). Copies of photographs or images from your life can help to enrich your experience.
The space will be a “no shoes” space on this day.

The pricing is structured to invite the possibility for everyone to participate.
In person 3 hour workshops include all materials, tea and snacks.
Level 1 Contribution: €15 (for under-resourced individuals)
Level 2 Contribution: €30 (for reasonably well-resourced individuals)
NEXAA is a non-profit arts and education organization that depends on membership fees and donations or grants to be able to fulfill our mission. We welcome any contributions beyond these levels. If someone cannot meet even the lowest level contribution we encourage you to contact us to discuss the possibilities to be able to participate.
*Registered NEXAA members receive the appropriate discount for whichever membership level applies.

This workshop will be led by expressive arts psychotherapist and practitioner Suzan Lemont, and expressive arts facilitator and poet Hannah Behrens. Together they bring a wealth of insight and knowledge to the process of discovering what is at play in the heart, the head, and the landscape and helping to put it all in context while creating a warm, supportive, and stimulating environment or container where one can step out of the everyday world for just a little while.
